Hi, friends in this blog I wish to write about Dalit literature. It is the literature of the oppressed and the down trodden. It forms the distinct part of Indian literature. Even though  Dalit literature sprouted in elevnth century with its work like Sekkizhar's Periya puranam it came into prominence only in the 1960's. With its start in Marathi it also appeared in Hndi, Kannada , Tamil, Telugu and other languages.Madara Chennaih a cobbler saint of the eleventh century is one of the first Dalilt writers. Twentieth century dalit literature came into application on 1958 with the conference of Maharastra dalit sahitya (Maharastra Dalit literature society) which was held at Mumbai.Lot of changes occured in the socio economic condition in the Dalit population. In India during 1997 K.R Narayanan was elected as the nation's president who was a Dalit.

It is a positive change in the history of Dalit literature eventhough many dalits are facing atrocities.
